Cambodia, Vietnam Commit to Enhancing Bilateral Relations and Cooperation On the afternoon of 7 May 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Republic of the Philippines, held from 7–8 May 2026. During the meeting, the Vietnamese Prime Minister thanked Samdech Thipadei for the congratulatory letter sent following his election as Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He highly valued the progress of Cambodia–Vietnam bilateral relations across all sectors and reaffirmed his strong commitment to further advancing cooperation between the two countries towards even greater achievements in the future. On that occasion, His Excellency Le Minh Hung also invited Samdech Thipadei to pay another official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In response, Samdech Thipadei expressed his satisfaction with the continued growth of relations between Cambodia and Vietnam within the frameworks of government-to-government and party-to-party cooperation, as well as people-to-people exchanges. Samdech Thipadei further noted that 2027 will mark the 70th anniversary of Cambodia–Vietnam diplomatic relations, and that the leaders of both countries have assigned relevant ministries and institutions to well organise anniversary celebrations. Samdech Thipadei also reaffirmed the importance of implementing further measures to increase bilateral trade volume towards the target of USD 20 billion and encouraged more Vietnamese investors to continue investing in Cambodia. In addition, he emphasised the importance of accelerating the determination of connection points between the Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway project and the Ho Chi Minh City–Moc Bai Expressway project for the benefit of economic connectivity and cross-border travel between the peoples of both countries. Samdech Thipadei also called for the simplification of customs and immigration procedures at border checkpoints to facilitate cross-border travel and the movement of goods between the two countries. The two Prime Ministers also discussed several initiatives to strengthen and expand cooperation in key areas, including politics, security and defence, economy, trade, energy, infrastructure connectivity, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
