Concrete houses are rising across Battambang City, but along the banks of the Sangke River, time seems to move more slowly. In Wat Kor commune’s Wat Kor village, about two kilometres south of Battambang’s Independence Monument, dozens of century-old wooden houses still stand beneath the shade of fruit trees, their weathered timber, broad verandahs and wooden floors preserving a way of life that has survived generations of change.
