**Cambodia Notifies UN Chief, Thailand of UNCLOS Conciliation Move PHNOM PENH--Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that the government has formally notified Thailand and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres of Cambodia's decision to initiate compulsory conciliation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). In a seven-minute pre-recorded speech, Hun Manet said opportunities for both sides to resolve the overlapping maritime claims through bilateral negotiations had been exhausted. The prime minister also stressed that the move does not signal a departure from bilateral engagement and should not be viewed as an escalation. "This is not an escalation, but a facilitated negotiation between the two nations overseen by international expert conciliators," Hun Manet said.
