BANTEAY MEANCHEY—Wait village (Rong Cham), a temporary settlement in Slakram commune, Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province, is home to around 3,000 families who remain unable to return home as a result of the border conflict.
Many residents said their homes in Prey Chan and Boeung Trakuon villages have been destroyed and are now controlled by Thai troops.
As they adapt to displacement, families are growing vegetables, raising animals such as chickens, and starting small businesses to earn income. Some have struggled to find work, while others have left for different provinces and migrated to Phnom Penh to find work to support their families.
