Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism; H.E. Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh; and H.E. Lieutenant General Chuon Narin, Deputy National Police Chief and Phnom Penh Police Commissioner, and in line with the leadership guidance of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on ensuring the safety and security of international tourists, on the morning of April 26, 2026, leaders from the Ministry of Tourism, together with the Phnom Penh Department of Tourism, in cooperation with the Daun Penh District Administration, conducted an on-site inspection and investigation into a complaint filed by a Japanese couple visiting Phnom Penh. The couple had used massage services at an unnamed shop located in Chey Chumneas Commune, Daun Penh District. According to the authorities’ report, the Japanese couple lost a total of 20,000 yen (approximately USD 125), not USD 2,000 as initially reported in earlier information. Furthermore, it is noted that, following decisive action by the Minister and the Governor of Phnom Penh, the massage shop in question has been ordered to temporarily close. Authorities are currently searching for the business owner, who has fled, in order to bring them to justice in accordance with the law.
