**Bathing of the Buddha Marks Last Day of New Year: Symbol of Forgiveness and Blessings
SIEM REAP – People take part in a Buddhist statue bathing ritual on the final day of the Khmer New Year.
The event, known as Srang Preah, is one of the most significant rituals held on Veareak Laeung Sak, the final day of the New Year celebrations.
During the ceremony, people gently pour water over Buddha statues. Monks, elders, and parents also ask for forgiveness for any mistakes made in the past year and offer blessings for the year ahead.
In both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, the tradition is observed to highlight religious practices and long-standing cultural customs.
In Phnom Penh, the ceremony was held at Wat Phnom. In Siem Reap, the ritual took place near the Royal Residence, allowing both locals and foreign tourists to experience the practice.
