Thai police have traced a 59-year-old driver who admitted delivering a parcel to a flight attendant later arrested in Australia with more than 1 kilogram of heroin concealed in 12 tote bags.
The parcel was delivered to Meena at her condominium in Bangkok’s Bang Na area on June 22. The driver, from Ayutthaya, told police he was hired by a foreign-looking man who accompanied him during the delivery.
Police said the driver had previously served 20 years in prison after being convicted in 1997 of transporting 10,000 methamphetamine pills from Chiang Rai to Bangkok. He also admitted delivering another parcel to a woman near Soi Suea Yai before going to Meena’s condominium.
Police seized the Toyota used in the delivery from a repair shop in Ayutthaya for forensic examination. Financial records showed Meena received 3,400 baht to carry the package, paid in two 1,700-baht instalments. Investigators are questioning the driver and tracing other suspected members of the network.
