PHNOM PENH, 26 June 2026 - Cambodia has been ranked the world's top country for sustainable land and natural resource management in 2026 by U.S. News & World Report, according to an announcement by Cambodian authorities citing the US-based publication and research institution.
The ranking places Cambodia first globally, ahead of Slovenia in second place and Paraguay in third. Within Southeast Asia, Cambodia also secured the top position, followed by Laos and Myanmar.
According to the report, the assessment considered a range of environmental indicators, including natural resource management, forest conservation, biodiversity protection, carbon emissions, air quality, water resources and land management.
Cambodia received high marks for protecting its natural resources, reducing deforestation and conserving biodiversity through its network of protected areas, which covers approximately 41 percent of the country's land area. The report also highlighted the country's low carbon emissions, supported by reforestation efforts, as well as its management of air quality, water resources and land use.
The latest recognition follows another recent ranking by U.S. News & World Report, which named Cambodia the country with the world's cleanest natural environment in its 2026 global assessment.
Cambodian officials said the latest ranking reflects the country's continued efforts to promote sustainable environmental management and preserve its natural resources while supporting long-term development.
