2026年5月5日，泰国政府正式批准终止2001年签署的关于柬泰海上重叠区域的谅解备忘录。
针对泰方的决定，柬埔寨外交部表示遗憾。柬埔寨副总理兼外交与国际合作部大臣巴速坤指出，该备忘录此前是双方和平解决海上边界问题的唯一框架。

Nevertheless, the termination of, or withdrawal from, the 2001 Memorandum of Understanding does not affect Cambodia’s lawful rights over its maritime areas. Cambodia’s decision to pursue compulsory conciliation under UNCLOS reaffirms its commitment to resolving maritime disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law.
