**Artisan Turns Palm Shells into Handicrafts for Tourists
PHNOM PENH — Phon Phoin has been teaching artisans how to sculpt palm and coconut shells to turn them into handicrafts for Cambodian and foreign visitors, showing in the process the creativity of artisans in the country.
Originally from Srey Santor District in Kampong Cham Province, Phoin has run the Coconut Shell Handicraft business for nearly 30 years.
He creates animals and birds out of palm and coconut shells, and sculpts ants, crickets and coconut flowers as souvenirs and decorations for homes, restaurants and resorts.
