the Minister further noted that the new generation of travelers no longer simply wishes to visit or take photographs at a destination. They want to immerse themselves in meaningful experiences, discover the stories behind each place, and create lasting memories that connect them deeply with the destination. At the same time, H.E. the Minister emphasized that the development of film tourism has received high-level attention and direct guidance from Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, with the vision of transforming Cambodia into a highly promising and competitive international film production and film tourism destination in the region. In conclusion, H.E. the Minister, in his capacity as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Working Group, affirmed that the National Workshop would serve as an important platform for gathering views, experiences, and valuable inputs from all relevant stakeholders. These contributions will provide a foundation for the formulation and implementation of effective, practical policies, strategies, and key measures, while jointly identifying appropriate solutions and support mechanisms to strengthen capacity, foster creativity, and create a more enabling environment for film production and film tourism development in Cambodia. It is worth highlighting that Cambodia has a successful historical track record of harnessing the influence of cinema to promote its tourism destinations. The country has served as a filming location for several major international productions, including Lord Jim, Two Brothers, and, most notably, the Hollywood blockbuster Tomb Raider in the early 2000s. Tomb Raider played an important role in bringing global attention to Ta Prohm Temple, renowned for its distinctive combination of ancient architecture intertwined with towering trees and lush vegetation, helping transform the temple into a world-famous tourism attraction. Even today, some international visitors informally refer to Ta Prohm as the “Angelina Jolie Temple.” The film First They Killed My Father further demonstrated Cambodia’s capacity and potential to host large-scale international film productions, while also generating economic benefits through direct spending and investment in local communities during the filmmaking process.
