Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet has vowed that the country will not become a safe haven for transnational online scam syndicates, as Phnom Penh hosts a global conference on cyberfraud. Delegates from more than a dozen countries, including the United States and China, are attending the summit.
Hun Manet called for greater international cooperation and real-time intelligence sharing to combat the multibillion-dollar scam industry. UNODC regional representative Delphine Schantz said more action was needed at national, regional and international levels.
Reuters footage from Cambodia shows equipment, fake police and US agency badges, documents and other material seized during anti-scam operations, alongside compounds linked to online fraud networks.
