**Khmer New Year Wishes Sent Through Cakes to Frontline Soldiers and Displaced Communities
PHNOM PENH – Overcoming the distance, Cambodian people hope to connect with displaced civilians and frontline soldiers through Khmer traditional cakes, wishing them a happy new year and reminding them of the sentiment from the capital.
People have been encouraged to take part in making Khmer cakes at the Nokor Sankranta event, which has been organized by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) and, organizers said, offers visitors a chance to make ansom chek and ansom chrouk from 2 p.m. on April 18 at the Cultural Village near the Wat Phnom historic site in Phnom Penh.
Since the first day of Khmer New Year on April 14, around 100 cakes have been made daily. Some are offered to visitors for free tasting, while others are prepared to be delivered to frontline soldiers and communities of people displaced due to the Cambodia-Thai border conflict.
