Sustainable urban development and environmental management in northeastern Cambodia have achieved a major milestone following the successful launch and ongoing operation of an international-standard landfill in Kratie City. Designed to modernize solid waste management systems, the infrastructure is playing a pivotal role in eliminating illegal dumping, curbing environmental pollution, and elevating the living standards and visual appeal of the regional hub.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the landfill facility occupies 6 hectares within a broader 26.88-hectare designated plot situated in Phsar Village, Dar Commune, Chet Borei District, Kratie Province. Engineered with a 20-year operational lifespan, the facility services four primary sangkats across Kratie City, namely Kratie, Krakor, Ou Ruessei, and Roka Kandal. Technically, the infrastructure is organized into four engineered pits, with Pit 1 measuring 135.75 meters by 122.50 meters at a depth of 2 meters, covering an area of 1.66 hectares. The design allows waste to be safely stacked up to a height of 15 meters above the pit rim, yielding a total storage capacity of approximately 196,220 cubic meters.
