“Battambang Province Has Demonstrated That Fertile Land, Delicious Fruits, and a Vibrant Culture Can Become a New Driving Force for Cambodia’s Tourism.” H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, presided over the opening ceremony of the Battambang Fruit Fair 2026, which was organized with two principal objectives: (1) to strengthen the linkage between the agricultural and tourism sectors, and (2) to promote domestic tourism during Cambodia’s Green Season, in line with the “Visit Cambodia in the Green Season 2026” Campaign (May–October 2026). The grand event was attended by H.E. Uy Ry, Chairman of the Battambang Provincial Council, and his spouse; H.E. Sok Lou, Governor of Battambang Province, and his spouse; senior officials of the Ministry of Tourism; representatives of relevant ministries and institutions; the President of the Cambodia Tourism Federation; the President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents; the Chief Executive Officer of the Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB); representatives from the private tourism industry; content creators, influencers, and KOLs; as well as local residents and a large number of domestic and international visitors. On this special occasion, H.E. the Minister conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet to the distinguished guests, particularly the people of Battambang Province. H.E. the Minister also expressed his profound gratitude to Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Supreme Privy Councillor to His Majesty the King and Member of the National Assembly for Battambang Province; H.E. Apisantepundit Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; and H.E. Koeut Rith, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice, and Chairman of the Royal Government Working Group for Battambang Province, for their continuous attention, guidance, and support in advancing the province’s development across all sectors, particularly tourism. In his remarks, H.E. the Minister highlighted with pride that Battambang City became Cambodia’s first UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy on 31 October 2023. This prestigious recognition demonstrates to the world that Cambodian cities possess rich cultural assets, outstanding potential, and strong competitiveness at both regional and global levels. Building on Battambang’s successful model, H.E. the Minister further noted that on 24 June 2026, the Ministry of Tourism organized a consultation workshop on preparing Kampot Province’s nomination to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of Gastronomy. He expressed confidence that Kampot will become Cambodia’s second UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, following Battambang. Furthermore, H.E. the Minister emphasized that on 30 June 2026, the Ministry of Tourism convened a national workshop on Tourism Diplomacy and Gastronomy Tourism, integrating Culinary Diplomacy, to gather inputs from relevant ministries, institutions, and the private sector for the formulation of a new national strategy to promote gastronomy tourism. The Ministry regards gastronomy tourism as a powerful soft power instrument to enhance Cambodia’s international image and showcase the Kingdom’s rich tourism potential to the world.
