Cambodia and Türkiye Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening and Expanding Tourism Cooperation for Greater Dynamism and Mutual Benefit H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Mesut Özcan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Kingdom of Cambodia, together with his delegation on strengthening and expanding bilateral tourism cooperation, advancing the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism Cooperation, promoting tourism destinations, enhancing people to people exchanges, and attracting more tourists and investment between the two countries at the Ministry of Tourism. During the meeting, H.E. the Minister warmly welcomed and congratulated H.E. Dr. Mesut Özcan on his appointment as Ambassador of Türkiye to Cambodia. He also expressed his appreciation to the Government and people of Türkiye for their continued support and commitment to expanding cooperation with Cambodia, particularly through the direct flight connection between Istanbul and Phnom Penh operated by Turkish Airlines. The Minister noted that this direct air link has played a significant role in strengthening connectivity between the two countries and promoting tourism, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. He further highlighted that the opening of Techo International Airport in 2025 has become a key catalyst for expanding Cambodia's international air connectivity and enhancing the country's tourism and trade links with the world. H.E. Dr. Mesut Özcan expressed his sincere gratitude to H.E. the Minister for the warm reception and the opportunity to exchange views. He commended Cambodia's remarkable progress in tourism development and its socio-economic achievements under an environment of peace, stability, and security. He reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to serving as a bridge to further strengthen cooperation between Cambodia and Türkiye, particularly in the areas of tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. The Ambassador also expressed support for accelerating the implementation of the MoU on Tourism Cooperation through the convening of the First Cambodia–Türkiye Tourism Working Group Meeting, organizing familiarization trips (FAM Trips), and holding a Cambodia–Türkiye Tourism Investment Forum to boost tourist flows and investment between the two countries. In response, H.E. the Minister thanked the Government and people of Türkiye for their continued support in strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He encouraged the Embassy of Türkiye to continue serving as a coordinating bridge with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye to expedite the implementation of the MoU on Tourism Cooperation, including the early convening of the First Cambodia–Türkiye Tourism Working Group Meeting. The Minister also proposed continued collaboration in promoting Cambodia's tourism potential through FAM Trips for tour operators, journalists, and content creators, as well as the organization of a Cambodia–Türkiye Tourism Investment Forum to foster tourism investment and business linkages between the two countries. H.E. the Ambassador also confirmed his participation in the Cambodia Muslim Tourism Forum and Expo 2026, which will be held on 10 July 2026 at the OCIC Chroy Changvar Convention and Exhibition Center. It is worth noting that Cambodia and Türkiye established diplomatic relations in 1959 and signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation in 2018, providing an important foundation for strengthening tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in a more effective and mutually beneficial manner.
