**Cambodia Strongly Rejects Thai Military's Attempts to Create Fait Accompli on Cambodian Territory**
AKP Pursat, July 09, 2026 --
Cambodia has reaffirmed its firm opposition to Thailand's attempts to create a fait accompli on Cambodian sovereign territory, stressing that it will never recognise any unilateral alteration of the border through the use of force.
Despite the ceasefire between the Cambodian and Thai armed forces that took effect on Dec. 27, 2025, Thai troops have continued to commit serious violations of Cambodia's sovereignty, according to Cambodian authorities.
Officials cited one such incident on Feb. 7, 2026, when Thai forces placed shipping containers, installed barbed wire, and raised the Thai national flag in the Thmar Da area of Sangkum Thmei village, Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
Cambodia also accused Thai forces of encroaching on several other locations within its sovereign territory, including the Boeung Trakuon area, Chok Chey village, Prey Chan village, and a number of temple sites, describing the actions as serious violations of international law.
Moreover, Thai troops have continued constructing permanent infrastructure, conducting religious ceremonies at Cambodia's cultural and religious heritage temples, and destroying and replacing religious statues. These activities have persisted despite repeated formal protests.
The Royal Government of Cambodia has strongly condemned the alleged incursions and urged Thailand to respect international law and Cambodia's territorial integrity in order to preserve peace, stability, and good-neighbourly relations between the two countries. It warned that continued violations would further heighten tensions along the border and underscored that all disputes should be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law.
Cambodia also reiterated its commitment to fully implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) signed on Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements aimed at restoring normalcy and achieving lasting peace and stability between the two neighbouring countries.
On July 9, a group of Cambodian journalists from various media outlets visited the Thmar Da commune in Pursat province, under the coordination of the Ministry of Information, to document the locations that have been encroached upon by Thai forces.
