标题: Japan Grants $11 Million to Boost Cambodia Landmine Clearance and Victim Assistance Project
The Japanese government has announced a grant aid of approximately ¥1.7 billion (around $11 million) to Cambodia. This funding will assist in clearing land contaminated by mines and support efforts to help individuals who have been disabled by landmines, specifically in the Pursat, Battambang, and Koh Kong provinces.
This additional grant aid, amounting to ¥1.7 billion, will support the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) in the third phase of the Integrated Mine Clearance and Rescue Project. This follows the completion of the second phase of the project at the end of 2025, which had a total cost of nearly $17 million.
The allocated funding will facilitate the clearance of 4,939 hectares of land contaminated by mines and munitions in the Sasrat region of Pursat, Battambang, and Koh Kong provinces. It will also address urgent requests for intervention in Pailin province, assist in the rescue of landmine victims, and foster post-clearance community development. Additionally, the aid will enable the purchase of ALIS demining machines and the establishment of an artificial intelligence (AI) data system.
Mr. Heng Ratana, the Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Center, expressed gratitude to the government and people of Japan on May 18, 2026, for their material and financial assistance in supporting the CMAC’s efforts to clear mines in Cambodia. The goal is to ensure Cambodi
