**Elderly Villagers Craft Traditional Offerings for Khmer New Year in Siem Reap SIEM REAP — A day ahead of the Khmer New Year, elderly villagers in Kantrork village, Siem Reap city, are busy preparing traditional and sacred offerings for the arrival of the New Year angel, marking the Year of the Horse, or Chhnam Momee. The offerings include Baysei and Sla thor, which typically feature ripe bananas, betel leaves, areca nuts, flowers, rice, incense and candles. Local elders said a set of Sla thor and Baysei sells for around 10,000 riel (about $2.50). Proceeds from the sales will support New Year celebrations and fund religious offerings at the pagoda during the festival.
