Aung Naing Thu, Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, on strengthening and expanding tourism cooperation between Cambodia and the Yangon Region in a more practical and effective manner, building upon the Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation.
During the cordial and productive meeting, the Chief Minister warmly welcomed H.E. the Minister and the Cambodian delegation and expressed his appreciation for Cambodia’s tourism development, particularly its cultural, historical, and religious tourism destinations, which continue to attract a growing number of international visitors.
Through comprehensive discussions on various aspects of tourism cooperation, both sides agreed to promote the exchange of experiences and best practices in destination management, religious tourism development, and cultural heritage conservation. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation between Yangon and Cambodia’s key tourism destinations, including Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
In particular, both sides agreed to jointly organize tourism promotion activities and participate in tourism fairs and exhibitions to enhance awareness of the tourism potential of both destinations. They also committed to advancing the implementation of the “Two Countries, One Destination” initiative, connecting Cambodia and Yangon as complementary tourism destinations.
Furthermore, the two sides discussed promoting Buddhist pilgrimage tourism by leveraging the rich Buddhist heritage of both Cambodia and Myanmar. They also expressed support for the exchange of cultural events, festivals, and tourism products, which will contribute to strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
