Embassies welcome Sokha pardon, urge broader political participation
Multiple foreign embassies in Cambodia have released congratulatory statements today, May 27, following the pardon of former opposition leader Kem Sokha.
The Australian embassy welcomed the decision, describing it as a “meaningful step forward” for both the veteran politician and the country.
The UK, German and French embassies also commented, with the UK embassy calling for Sokha’s “political freedoms to be restored".
“We continue to encourage Cambodia to enable genuine political participation and stand ready to support Cambodia to achieve this,” the Australian embassy added.
