**Pinglu Canal opens 5,000-tonne inland gateway linking western China with ASEAN**
China officially opened the 134.2km Pinglu Canal to navigation on September 16, transforming waterways once limited to vessels of about 50 tonnes into a river–sea trade corridor capable of accommodating 5,000-tonne ships between the country’s western interior, the Beibu Gulf Port and multiple ASEAN markets.
