The Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) is committed to promoting tourism cooperation with Cambodia’s private tourism sector to increase two-way tourist flows following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cambodia–Myanmar tourism cooperation
H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, led a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Tourism and the Cambodia Tourism Board (CTB) to hold in-depth discussions and exchange views with U Kyaw Bohne Naing, President of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA), along with the Association’s senior leadership and representatives of leading Myanmar tourism companies. The discussions focused on strengthening and expanding tourism cooperation between Cambodia and Myanmar in a more concrete and fruitful manner following the signing of the MoU on tourism cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, U Kyaw Bohne Naing warmly welcomed the working visit of H.E. the Minister and the Cambodian high-level delegation. He expressed strong interest in Cambodia’s tourism potential, particularly its renowned cultural, historical, and natural destinations, including the Angkor Archaeological Park, coastal areas, and religious tourism sites, which have the potential to attract more Myanmar tourists to visit Cambodia in the future. He also highlighted UMTA’s role in promoting the development of Myanmar’s tourism industry and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism to enhance tourist exchanges, joint promotional activities, and connections between tourism operators of both countries.
Through this productive meeting, both parties agreed to promote joint tourism promotion programs, Familiarization Trips (FAM Trips), Tourism Business-to-Business (B2B) Forums, and the development of new travel packages to increase two-way tourist flows and strengthen cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.
Furthermore, both sides will discuss encouraging tourism enterprises, hotel operators, travel agencies, and investors from Myanmar to explore investment opportunities and expand business cooperation in Cambodia’s tourism sector, contributing to sustainable tourism development and creating mutual benefits for both nations.
During the meeting, H.E. the Minister also requested UMTA to support the promotion of Cambodia’s tourism potential to the people and tourism operators of Myanmar through its member network. He also encouraged the organization of familiarization trips for tourism companies, journalists, content creators, and social media influencers from Myanmar to visit Cambodia and promote Cambodia’s tourism attractions to the Myanmar market more broadly. In addition, he sought support for improving air connectivity between key tourism destinations, such as the Angkor region and the Bagan region, to attract tourists from regional and international markets.
It should be noted that the Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) was established in 2002 and is one of the most important representative organizations of Myanmar’s private tourism sector, with approximately 1,000 member entities. The Association has played an active role in promoting Myanmar’s major tourism destinations, including Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, and Inle Lake, and is recognized as a key partner in the development of Myanmar’s tourism industry.
It should also be noted that in 2025, Cambodia welcomed approximately 5.6 million international tourists, including around 37,000 visitors from Myanmar. Meanwhile, during the first four months of 2026, Cambodia received more than 1.3 million international tourists, including over 10,000 visitors from Myanmar.
