柬埔寨外交与国际合作部国务秘书公波（KUNG Phoak）近日就泰方可能单方面撤出2001年谅解备忘录一事作出回应。
公波表示，柬埔寨始终坚持尊重并遵守国际法，致力于通过和平手段解决争端。若泰方单方面撤出该谅解备忘录，柬埔寨将不得不依据国际法及《联合国海洋法公约》（UNCLOS）的相关规定，启动强制调解机制。

In the event that the Thai side unilaterally withdraws
from this Memorandum of Understanding, as a state that firmly respects and adheres to international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes, Cambodia would be left with no choice but to rely upon international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), particularly the mechanism of compulsory conciliation under this Convention.
This mechanism of compulsory conciliation is established by the UNCLOS to assist state parties in resolving disputes peacefully in accordance with international law.
