**Cambodia protests after Thai gunfire heard near O’Smach border crossing**
Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) warned that 22 gunshots were heard near the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province on the morning of May 24.
The RCAF accused Thai forces, who they accused of illegally occupying Cambodian territory, of firing on Cambodian positions.
According to Cambodia’s Military Region four, the gunfire was heard between 9.24 and 10.10am.
The Military Region four liaison team shared a formal protest letter with Thailand’s Army Area two liaison team, demanding an investigation and stricter discipline, in line with the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) joint statement signed in December 2025.
