On the morning of 27 October 2026, His Excellency Deputy Prime PRAK Sokhonn, Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency ISHIZUKI Hideo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Ministry.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister warmly welcomed and congratulated His Excellency ISHIZUKI Hideo on his appointment by the Government of Japan to undertake his diplomatic mission in Cambodia. Both sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including politics, trade and investment, defense and security, education, and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments. Both sides affirmed their commitment to further strengthening the friendly relations and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and expanding cooperation into new areas to bring greater mutual benefits to both countries and peoples.
Taking this opportunity, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister briefed the Japanese Ambassador on the latest developments regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border situation and reaffirmed Cambodia’s position on resolving the border issue through peaceful means, in line with international law and existing bilateral agreements. He also expressed Cambodia’s appreciation to Japan for its humanitarian assistance to Cambodian displaced persons affected by the border situation.
Following the meeting, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and His Excellency ISHIZUKI Hideo signed the Exchange of Notes and accompanying documents on the extension of the Government of Japan’s Yen Loan, amounting to thirty billion Japanese Yen (JPY 30,000,000,000), approximately USD 200 million for the implementation of the Emergency Support Loan for Enhancing Economic Resilience and Stable Energy Supply.
