The workshop was organized with the following key objectives:
To promote and provide detailed information regarding the Best Tourism Research Paper Competition 2026.
To provide orientation for candidate students participating in the competition and to strengthen the capacity of Ministry of Tourism technical officials in conducting applied/action research.
To enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and universities in promoting research within the tourism sector.
On that occasion, H.E. Hor Sarun highlighted strong expectations that this orientation workshop and the Best Tourism Research Paper Competition will serve as a vital catalyst in building and strengthening a scientific research culture. Furthermore, it aims to translate theoretical knowledge and research findings into effective, actionable solutions to address current demands and challenges in the tourism industry.
Additionally, H.E. Hor Sarun emphasized that promoting tourism research is not only crucial for expanding the knowledge base, but also serves as an essential strategic tool to support evidence-based policy formulation, planning, and decision-making. High-quality research outcomes will better identify trends, opportunities, challenges, and requirements within the sector, providing a foundation for innovation and new solutions that elevate service quality, competitiveness, management efficiency, and stakeholder engagement.
Crucially, this initiative will contribute to creating a tangible impact—bridging knowledge into practice, and practice into policy refinement—to drive the development of Cambodia's tourism sector toward greater resilience, sustainability, and inclusiveness.
