Phorn Rim, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, confirmed on April 23, 2026, that the project has reached 47.6% completion as of April 22. This progress indicates that the development is currently moving 2.60 percent faster than originally projected in the master plan. This vital infrastructure project was initiated during a joint groundbreaking ceremony for the bridge and the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway on June 7, 2023. The event was presided over by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, then Prime Minister and current President of the Senate, alongside former Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wentian.
