**Cambodian Foremen Qualify for Cultural Preservation SIEM REAP – Forty-one Cambodian heritage foremen have been certified by World Monuments Fund (WMF), an organization dedicated to safeguarding the world's architectural and cultural heritage, after technical training in 2025 and 2026 in Siem Reap province. They graduated on June 10 during the 42nd Technical Session of the International Coordinating Committee for the Safeguarding and Development of the Historic Sites of Angkor and Sambor Prei Kuk where local and international heritage experts converge regularly to discuss preservation of Angkor Park. “The program is designed to standardise and strengthen technical competency across the world’s heritage sites while contributing to the professionalisation of the heritage sector in Cambodia,” Katherine M. Diop, US Embassy acting deputy chief of mission, said. The trainees were selected from institutions including the Apsara National Authority, Korea Heritage Agency, World Monuments Fund and Archaeological Survey of India. The embassy also announces an additional grant of $250,000 for the continued conservation of Phnom Bakheng temple as part of the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation Freedom 250. "For a quarter-century, the AFCP has helped safeguard Cambodia's treasure. By combining American innovation with local expertise, we will ensure historical sites like Phnom Bakheng are preserved for generations to come", Diop added. The US has invested over $4 million in the preservation of 9th century Phnom Bakheng temple, a prominent Hindu monument which has been studied and restored by WMF since 2004.
