Cambodia Stands Ready to Cooperate with Viet Nam and Mekong Countries to Develop the Region as a Destination for MICE and Major International Events and Promote Multi-Destination Tourism
With the high-level guidance of Samdech Moha Bovor Thipadei HUN MANET, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and on the occasion of leading a high-level delegation of the Ministry of Tourism and Cambodia’s private sector on a working visit to promote Cambodia’s tourism potential and the “Visit Cambodia in the Green Season” campaign, as well as to strengthen tourism cooperation with the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and countries in the region, H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, delivered a keynote address at the High-Level Tourism Forum on MICE Tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), held as part of the ITE HCMC 2026 International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
The Forum was presided over by H.E. Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, with the participation of tourism ministers from countries across the region, diplomatic representatives, senior leaders from public and private institutions, international experts, and numerous national and international guests.
In his address, H.E. Minister HUOT Hak underscored that MICE tourism plays a significant role in driving economic growth, creating investment opportunities, strengthening business connectivity, facilitating knowledge transfer, and promoting local community development. He further emphasized that the future development of MICE tourism should focus on three key priorities: Innovation, Sustainability, and Connectivity, with the aim of creating long-term value for economies, people, and the tourism sector throughout the region.
At the same time, H.E. the Minister highlighted the strong potential for developing Multi-Destination Tourism among Cambodia, Viet Nam, and other countries in the Mekong region. He encouraged neighboring countries to view one another as strategic partners and complementary tourism destinations rather than competitors.
As a practical example, a meeting or conference held in Ho Chi Minh City could be combined with an incentive trip to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, offering international visitors richer and more diverse travel experiences while enhancing the overall attractiveness and competitiveness of the region as an integrated tourism destination.
Furthermore, H.E. the Minister presented Cambodia’s strong potential to develop as a destination for MICE activities and major international events. Phnom Penh is increasingly developing as a destination for government meetings, international conferences, and business events, while Siem Reap, Cambodia’s coastal areas, the Mekong region, and ecotourism destinations offer significant potential for incentive programs as well as pre- and post-conference tours.
In response to evolving regional tourism trends, H.E. the Minister emphasized that the Royal Government of Cambodia, under the sound and visionary leadership of Samdech Moha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, continues to strengthen tourism infrastructure, connectivity, human resources, and cooperation with the private sector and international partners in order to promote a tourism sector that is high-quality, sustainable, and inclusive.
In conclusion, H.E. the Minister called upon countries in the region, tourism partners, the private sector, and international event organizers to further strengthen cooperation in developing joint MICE tourism packages, implementing green tourism standards, promoting the responsible use of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and investing in human resource development. These efforts will contribute to making the region’s MICE tourism sector more competitive and resilient while fostering shared and sustainable growth.
