Hyundai Engineering has improved the design of modular transport systems and precast concrete structures by using Bentley Systems’ STAAD.Pro, along with the OpenSTAAD API and Command Editor, to develop in-house automation tools.
The software automates structural analysis, model creation, load application, and design of complex concrete components, reducing manual work while improving accuracy.
The new system cut module transportation analysis time by 75%, reducing two months of work to less than two weeks, while precast concrete design review time dropped by 83%, from 1.5 months to about one week.
By replacing outsourced structural analysis, Hyundai now saves more than KRW 750 million annually. Faster design also allows engineers to evaluate project feasibility earlier during bidding, improving competitiveness and helping optimize structural designs, reducing material use by over 5% and saving approximately KRW 1.5 billion per project.
