The Ministry of Tourism and the Embassy of Belgium to Cambodia Discuss Tourism Cooperation and Participation in the Village Francophonie Side Event of the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh
H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, received H.E. Michel Parys, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Kingdom of Cambodia, with residence in Bangkok, together with his delegation, for a courtesy call and in-depth discussions on establishing tourism cooperation between the two countries, as well as Belgium’s participation in the Village Francophonie side event to be organized during the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh.
During this important meeting, H.E. the Minister expressed his sincere appreciation and high regard to the Government and people of Belgium for their continued efforts in strengthening friendship and cooperation with Cambodia. He also briefed the Ambassador on Cambodia’s political, economic, social, and tourism situation, emphasizing that Cambodia remains a peaceful, safe, and warm destination for international visitors. In addition, he highlighted the “Cambodia: Kingdom of Wonder, Feel the Warmth” campaign and the “Visit Cambodia in Green Season” campaign, which aim to attract more international tourists to the Kingdom.
At the same time, H.E. the Minister informed H.E. the Ambassador of the significant number of Belgian tourists visiting Cambodia and Belgian investors in the hospitality sector. These positive developments provide a solid foundation for strengthening and expanding tourism cooperation between the two countries. Particular attention was given to the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism Cooperation, organizing Familiarization (FAM) Trips for tour operators, journalists, and content creators, holding a Cambodia–Belgium Tourism Investment Forum, and promoting business-to-business (B2B) cooperation to attract investment and increase tourist flows between the two countries.
In response, H.E. the Ambassador likewise underscored the strong bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Belgium across various sectors, including investments by Belgian nationals and the presence of the Belgian community in Cambodia. As Cambodia prepares to host the 20th Francophonie Summit this coming November, H.E. the Ambassador also confirmed that the Belgian Government, together with its high-level delegation, will participate in the Summit as well as in the Village Francophonie side event, which is being organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
It is worth noting that the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Belgium established diplomatic relations in 1955 and resumed diplomatic ties in 1992, marking more than 34 years of renewed bilateral relations.
