A country can only graduate from the LDC category after meeting the strict criteria set by the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP).  The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Cambodia reported that Cambodia successfully met all three required criteria during the 2021 and 2024 triennial reviews, confirming that Cambodia is ready for graduation. Whether Cambodia wants to graduate or not, it has no choice because the UNhas already set December 19, 2029, as the official graduation date.  Therefore, instead of focusing only on what Cambodia may lose after graduation, the country should focus on how to prepare for the changes and make the most of the new opportunities.  Graduation should not be seen as the end of international support, but as a turning point that encourages Cambodia to become more self-reliant, competitive and capable of creating its own economic opportunities.
