The event “Cycling for Phnom Da Green Tourism” demonstrates the development of a tourism product that connects sports, heritage, nature, the environment, and local communities to create new experiences, stimulate domestic and international tourism, and contribute to enhancing Takeo Province as a more attractive and vibrant tourism destination, particularly during the Green Season.
H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, presided over the opening ceremony of the 179-kilometre cycling event from Phnom Penh Capital to Phnom Da Temple in Takeo Province, under the theme “Cycling for Phnom Da Green Tourism.” The event brought together leaders, cyclists, content creators, influencers, KOLs, members of the public, as well as a large number of national and international tourists.
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Minister highlighted that this was the fourth cycling event organized and facilitated in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, with the objective of promoting cultural, heritage, and natural tourism destinations, particularly Phnom Da Temple—one of Takeo Province’s significant historical tourism sites. The event also aims to stimulate tourist flows during the Green Season and contribute to social initiatives through the donation of educational materials to underprivileged students.
This year’s event attracted approximately 500 participants. More than 300 cyclists and members of the public joined from the starting point in Phnom Penh, while approximately 200 additional participants joined at various destinations in Takeo Province. Among them were 18 international cyclists from France, Russia, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, China, and Vietnam.
The cycling journey started from the Independence Monument Roundabout in Phnom Penh and headed towards Takeo Province, passing through several important areas and tourism destinations, including Tonle Bati, Phnom Chisor, Ang Tasom, and Angkor Borei District, before reaching the final destination at Phnom Da Temple.
H.E. Minister also underscored the importance of connecting sports, tourism, and environmental sustainability. Cycling is not only a form of physical exercise that promotes both physical and mental well-being, but also a tourism activity that enables participants to directly experience nature, traditions, customs, local ways of life, and communities along the route.
In particular, H.E. Minister emphasized that upon arrival at Phnom Da Temple, participants would take part in planting 600 peacock flower trees along both sides of the road leading to the temple. This practical initiative contributes to promoting a greener environment and enhancing the beauty of the tourism area. In addition, the programme included the distribution of educational materials to 437 students and 31 teachers from four primary schools.
H.E. Minister stressed that the enthusiastic participation of all stakeholders reflected a strong spirit of solidarity, effective cooperation, and collective commitment to advancing the tourism sector by transforming cycling into an effective means of promoting Cambodia’s tourism destinations, heritage, history, natural attractions, and green tourism.
On this occasion, H.E. Minister also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to H.E. VEI Samnang, Governor of the Takeo Provincial Administration; relevant provincial departments; all branches of the armed forces; the Civil Society Alliance Forum; the private sector; companies; philanthropists; and all working teams for their close cooperation, support, and coordination, which contributed to the smooth and successful organization of the event.
