Sports Tourism: A Key Driver for Attracting International Visitors and Promoting “Kun Khmer” to the World
H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, granted an audience to Mr. Daisuke Teraguchi, Chief of International Operations of K-1, for a courtesy call and discussion on promoting and developing Sports Tourism in Cambodia.
The meeting was also attended by H.E. Khov Chhay, President of the Kun Khmer Boxing Federation, and Mr. Rick Shin, President of Kombat Global. The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between the tourism sector and combat sports, with the aim of transforming sports events into attractive tourism products and promoting Cambodia’s tourism potential to international markets.
The discussion explored opportunities to bring and organize international-level sports tourism events in Cambodia in order to attract athletes, sports fans, and international visitors to the Kingdom. It also highlighted cooperation with international sports organizations and partners to promote “Kun Khmer” and Cambodian cultural identity to the world.
On the occasion, H.E. Minister emphasized: “Sports and tourism are closely interconnected. Hosting international sporting events in Cambodia will not only attract athletes, fans, and visitors from around the world, but will also provide a valuable opportunity to showcase Cambodia’s tourism destinations, culture, civilization, and, in particular, ‘Kun Khmer’—a treasured heritage and distinctive identity of the Cambodian nation—to the international stage.”
H.E. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, also welcomed and expressed his support for cooperation with K-1, the Kun Khmer Boxing Federation, Kombat Global, and relevant partners to bring international combat sports events to Cambodia. Such initiatives will contribute to enhancing the attractiveness of sports tourism, expanding Cambodia’s tourism markets, and elevating the Kingdom’s reputation on the international stage.
K-1 is one of Japan’s renowned combat sports organizations and is widely recognized in the international combat sports industry. Through its high-level competitions, K-1 has attracted prominent fighters and combat sports fans from numerous countries, with its events reaching audiences worldwide.
